RC Airplane -- Jason Gallicchio

RC Model Airplane Crash on Video

I built a plane and flew it successfully several times around the Harvard University Athletic Fields. Then I put a wireless video camera on the bottom of it. I didn't think the signal would go very far, so I flew it close to the receiver in the parking lot. Due to lack of sleep and depth perception, I crashed it into the top corner of a brick building. The video gets very fuzzy when I turn on the motor due to electrical interference from its sparks.

After the crash, the camera came untaped from the plane, swung around, and pointed back at the nose for a while. It's interesting that the plane survived the crash into the brick wall, but not the fall into the pavement.

Not to be outdone, a few days later NASA released video of Solid Rocket Booster Separation As Viewed From A Camera Onboard.

Video: crash.mp4 (19MB encoded in H.264/MPEG-4 AVC) requires Quicktime 7 or VLC, or mplayer.

Clips from the video in full DV quality -- tennis courts, me flying it, the building it crashed into, and the crash.
