SIGGraph 2000 Fun

| Of course the conference wasn't all serious, focused learning. We had our fun too. The people at the door were so anal about grabbing our badges and checking to make sure they had the right colors and markings to allow us into different areas that Seth made a bold "grab this!" statement on the third day. |

The famous escalator races provided hours of fun |
| Here each participant is seen as a blur as he escalates by, nearing the finish line in his airodynamic crouch to reduce all possible wind resistance and insure a glorious victory for himself and humiliating defeat for his opponent. |
| On Wednesday night, Sun Microsystems rented out the House of Blues for a private SIGGraph party. Surprisingly, the only mention of them was a weak projection of their logo on the outside tent. |
I got to see Jim Belushi sing. (No joke -- Sun actually has that much money.) |
| Open bar all night long -- of course being under 21 for 6 more days meant I stuck to free Coke. |
Gotta love the inter-cultural attitude that New Orleans is famous for. |
| One of the two official SIGGraph receptions was at the Aquarium (the other at the Modern Art Museum, which they never let us inside of.) There were so many people there that despite SIGGraph having rented out the whole aquarioum, there was a long line to get in. |
| "Schooling Fish." All they do is swim around in a circle all day long. I saw at least two papers and one animation at SIGGraph that this reminded me of. |
Outside there were free drinks and wild dancing into the night. |
| Of course we worked our way right up to the front next to the stage to get the most out of our reception going dance experience. |
