New Orleans Buds -- Jason Gallicchio

New New Orleans Friends

Much of our socializing centered around my UIUC friend Monica who was at Tulane University for a summer research experience in mathematics.  She had a real dorm with only one roommate, a real phone, a real TV, a real place to check e-mail, and a spacious bathroom.  Not that we didn't love hanging out with her friends, but the accommodations alone beat ours hands down.

Her group of fellow summer math researchers gathered on the open balcony outside their dorm rooms.

A more formal group photo on the balcony.

Monica's somewhat slutty roommate "airing out."

Monica's "good friend" Mike from Notre Dame who knows Cynthia and reminds me a little too much of Scott's brother.

Another cool friend of hers, Nick.  See that haircut?  That was Monica's work.

Monica driving us to an Italian restaurant in her pimped out '84 Toyota. The waitress there was so much better than the incompetent waiter we had earlier for lunch that I included the tip I didn't give him in her tip and wrote a note explaining the large sum.  I also left my cell phone number, but she never called.

While at the Italian restaurant, we spotted a painting with a character who bore a striking resemblance to one of us.

At SIGGraph, Seth ran into Feliz, an aspiring 3D modeler from New Mexico.  We were quite disappointed to learn that through friends of family, she spent the week in a nice condo and acquired much knowledge of the ins and outs of the city.  It all evened out, though, since her last night was spent in the youth hostile too.

Seth had an obsession for playing pool this whole trip.  No matter what we did, he didn't seem happy unless he was smacking some balls around.

These are some random SIGGraph attendees whom Seth befriended over a ruthless game of billiards.
