One day in August 2001, I asked Ben Serebrin if I could borrow his FujiFilm FinePix 6800 to try my hand at digital photography around the Stanford campus. I'm not a real photographer, so this isn't an attempt at anything serious, except for having fun. Here's what I produced.

I have another colletion of photos from Stanford that I put up here in May of 2003.

MC Escher Meets Stanford:

I'll start with this one because it's my favorite. It's also the only one that I significantly doctored in Photoshop. It's not supposed to look like that! (Compare with the original, in small and large formats.) [large format]

Flowered Foreground:

This was taken in the main quad overlooking a gorgeous flower bush. Does anyone know the name of this type of flower? [large format]

Many Arches:

This is another shot in the Main Quad. I really like how the roof and floor lines converge at a point (if you extend them off the page). [large format]

Tropical Leaves:

Every day at Stanford I walk by these plants. The plump, waxy leaves fascinate me. Why? I don't know. [large format]

Gateway Arch:

Alright, by now I have the arches of the Stanford Main Quad on the brain (note the 3 other arch pictures above). This one frames a garden off to the side of Memorial Church. [large format]

Facade:

Here's the classic shot of Stanford. My version is slightly less than classic because I had to play with the contrast quite a bit (it was extremely bright when I took the picture), perhaps altering the tones slightly, and because of the orange contruction fence in the middle. You get the idea that it's a nice place though. [large format]

Canvas:

This is a closeup of the flower bush in "Flowered Foreground". Isn't it cool? (And wouldn't it be a cooler picture if the foremost flowers were in focus?) [large format]
