Around the World Dorm Party
The Graduate Dorm Council has $500 of our money to give away for dorm events every month. We suckered them into giving us half of that to throw a party on our floor. |
Sure there was the food. |
But more importantly, the keg. And Miguel, our volunteer BAT team representative, who, by Harvard law, had to be there to serve beer to us wild and crazy grad students. |
Being an around the world party, it was important that we have a variety of cultures present. |
Matt was in charge of introducing the foreigners to the great American College tradition of beer pong. (That's Notre Dame hat, by the way.) |
Laura and Evan loosing to Matt. |
Dana and Dan in our lounge. |
The other major culture present was "Outer Space," organized by the physics people on our floor. This is my contribution, a Theremin that plays different tones depending on how close your hand is to the aluminum "antenna." |
When I decided to build one the night before around midnight, I had no idea how useful the vast resources of the world wide web would prove to be. |
Back to the party. Miriam, Jason our RA, and British Sarah, all smiling for me. How cute. |
Everybody from before, plus Emi -- the one responsible for getting all the money. "We think we need $350 for food, drinks, costumes, decorations, etc.... I suppose we can go down to $250 if we ditch the costumes and decorations." |
Finally, and most importantly, sticking with the theme of a multi-cultural experience, we Americans introduced British Sarah to the keg stand. |
Notice that's our Resident Advisor holding one side. Impressive showing for her first try -- 22 seconds with two "no I don't want to stop yet" shakings of her head. |
